The position of Veteran's Advocate was conceived and created by the Township to assist our Veteran population in understanding and receiving the benefits they are entitled to.
Many of our Veterans are not aware that our government is providing medical care, education assistance, burial and memorial assistance, pension and disability compensation, employment services, home loan guarantees, survivor benefits and an array of other services.
Many Veterans may not be aware that any medals they have earned and not received can be acquired, even at this late date. Also, if they have lost or misplaced their discharge papers they can be duplicated for them.
Naturally, there are some areas that the Advocate cannot help, but in those cases, a referral can be made to a source that may help the Veteran.
The Advocate gets involved in Veteran activities within the Township and has worked to develop and consolidate programs that help our Veterans who are serving our Country today. The Township's "Support Our Troops" program is one example. The creation and building of a Memorial to our Veterans in Bartlett is another program that the advocate is actively involved with.
The Township Board, along with the Supervisor, feels that this program symbolizes what our Township is all about. We are here to serve all of the people in our Township and the Veterans are just one small segment of our citizens.
