Federal Funding to
Depend on
Accurate Census in April
2010
A
little less than a year from now, a very important event will take place.
In April 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau will conduct its survey to
find out just how many
of us Americans there really are.
The census count is extremely important to us as a Community. We receive
state and federal funds
based on our population. A short count means we
won’t get our fair share
of those funds which are used for schools, transportation, healthcare, housing
and more. In addition, population determines state and federal legislative
boundaries.
After the census is
concluded, our Congressional, State Senate and State House districts will be
redrawn. So a lot of things depend on us getting a proper count of our residents.
For this census, the form is going to be much shorter and much less intrusive than
in 2000.
There will only be 10 questions on the form that you’ll be asked to fill out.
The information is absolutely confidential. We at the Township and City level
never see the information. We only get a broad analysis of the data.
The census will also offer an opportunity for employment. We’ll be posting
information about where
and how to apply for jobs working with the census … or you can go to the census
website at www.2010.census.gov.
This is an extremely important survey and I hope you’ll all be counted.
